Second Weekend Success!

Well our second weekend at camp came to an end and was a true blessing. The deer weren’t really moving with the wind and weather being so confused. But the most important thing of this weekend was the messages.

The past weekend we had 12 children, and about 14 adults. Our messages were brought by Brother Emory May from the Franklin County area. Special thanks for him coming out and sharing the gospel with us this past weekend, it was definitely a blessing.

We had one deer killed this weekend, and a few more that were seen. But we also had 30 mile an hour winds and a monsoon blow through when we weren’t sweating it out or shivering in the stands. All in all, a successful weekend when we look at the time spent with the kids.

And I guess that is where this week’s blog really starts, Time. It’s one of the most important gifts that God has given to us, and usually the most misused. In the world we live in today we are all so rushed and hurried, and in the end, we spend hours doing nothing. But our time that is a gift to us, can also be used as a gift for others.

This weekend Bro. Emory talked about Luke 15. The lost sheep parable was the first message, but the one that hit me the hardest I believe. You see the sheep wandered off, just by doing what sheep do. And sadly, that is how a lot of Christians go about life, just going with the flow and doing what they want. Eat, work, sleep, and begin the process over again. We have gotten wrapped up in going through the motions and we have forgotten that we have a shepherd that wants to have a relationship with us. We have gotten so caught up in the day to day dreariness of life, that we let life pass us by completely. It’s not that we have begun walking in disobedience, it’s just that the world has filled our schedule and made us too busy to do anything for God. It doesn’t take but a moment to share a word of encouragement or lend a helping hand, but it also takes us paying attention and looking for opportunities for God to use us. I sat with one of the mentors this weekend and we talked about how difficult it is in the beginning to find a moment to bring up Christ and reach out in love. But, he said the more I do it, the more moments I see where God is allowing me to help others and show His love.

It’s not easy to step out on faith and witness to others, but it is necessary. Christ has given us direction. Mark 16:15 Christ commands that we “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” And I know what you’re thinking, ‘I’m not called to preach! ‘, and I agree completely with you. I’m not called to preach, but the Great Commission was given to each of us. We are called to share the gospel, we are called to share our testimony. That means we have to start paying attention. I pray that we all look for opportunities to share His love.

It may not be easy to begin with, but it’s like everything else, practice makes perfect, or at least not as tough. I hope each of you has a blessed week, and if you know anyone that may be interested in learning more about us and what we do feel free to get in contact. We are a non-profit and all weekends are free of charge to anyone interested.

Love in Christ,

Briar Ridge
